NEWS COVERAGE ON JAIL BREAK

VS

I wanted to talk a little bit about the can of worms I opened up on my show this morning (Wednesday January 18th)

I brought up the fact that Fox News, MSNBC and CNN had up to the minute coverage on the Jail Break in Russel County while all the other stations in town were playing their early morning/mid-day line up of the Ellen Degeneres Show, Regis and Kelly or whoever is on during that time. Right around the time of 9:50 until 10:15am on Tuesday is when things started really happening in capturing the prisoners. Local Television stations can say all they want that they cut into local programming in the 10:00am hour to announce the capture.

When it comes down to it, if you had to compare the coverage between the national News networks and the local television stations, The National Networks by far were the most comprehensive and up to the minute while all the local television stations were very much after the fact.

Conveying the message that the networks have already announced is not breaking the news. One listener that called in to my show stands out. She was extremely let down by the local tv stations. She mentioned it would of been nice to know that those guys were held up in a hotel around 9:50 instead of figuring it out much later, especially since that hotel is a stone's throw away from an elementary school.

I was in Atlanta at a conference, the weekend of the Courthouse shooting and in my hotel room all the local channels had around the clock coverage until the shooter was captured with no commercial interruption.

Feel free to add a post.
